Our Story.
From a small roadside vegetable cart to the Mercier Farms you know today.
Mercier Farms began with a simple idea from a 14-year-old boy named Michael Mercier.
When Michael was just 14, he wanted to find a job but discovered that his age made it difficult. Rather than give up, he approached his father, Chris, with an idea: Why not grow vegetables on the family's 22-acre property in the Town of Plattekill, New York?
Having grown up on a 16-acre farm himself, Chris knew a thing or two about farming. Together, father and son decided to give it a try.
They purchased a small roadside cart, planted vegetables, and began selling their harvest along the road in Plattekill. What started as a young boy's desire to earn some money soon grew into something much bigger.
Over the years, Mercier Farms grew from that little roadside cart to a small building, and eventually to the farm and country market we proudly operate today on 50 acres in New Paltz, New York.
Family has always been at the heart of Mercier Farms.
Michael, whose idea started it all, still lends a helping hand whenever he can. Our other son, David, also grew up working alongside Chris on the farm. Today, David proudly serves his country as a United States Marine, but whenever he comes home, he still makes time to help his family on the farm.
Today, Chris and Gina Mercier operate Mercier Farms and Gina's Bakery from their 2,600-square-foot building, offering farm-fresh produce, homemade baked goods, fresh mozzarella, and other specialty foods.
What began as one young boy's dream has become a family tradition.
And while Mercier Farms has grown over the years, one thing has never changed: our love for family, farming, and the community that has supported us along the way.
